Dr. Karnani is an HCPC Registered Psychologist practicing in Hong Kong and utilizes a range of therapeutic approaches in her work such as Gottman Method Couples Therapy including Affair Recovery and Couples Addiction Recovery, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy for Trauma, Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), and Chronic Pain, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) including emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family System (IFS) informed, addiction counselling, family systems, person-centered and positive psychology.
Dr. Karnani is a Certified Gottman Couples’ Therapist, Certified EMDR Therapist, Certified Clinical Trauma Therapist, and a Certified Addiction Counselor. She is a Leader for the Gottman Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. Dr. Karnani also conducts DBT Skills Training Groups.
Dr. Karnani is passionate about the importance of the right support system in allowing each person to adapt, thrive and assert one’s agency as well as the interaction between mental and physical health (psychophysiological functioning and balance) in improving overall wellness.
Dr. Karnani is an empathetic, patient and compassionate therapist who utilizes clinical psychology to help clients from all walks of life. Having lived and worked in various parts of the world, including Hong Kong, Canada and India, she has experience with the way people from different cultures and backgrounds react to and process life events, such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma or a milestone moment. Dr. Karnani understands the need to have a non-judgmental space for individuals, couples and families to find their own solutions to conflicts, significant events and traumas in their lives and relationships. Dr. Karnani consults in English, Hindi and Sindhi.
Dr. Karnani is also a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P) which enhances her work as a psychologist as she works holistically by paying attention to the interaction between food and mood in improving mental health.
