Pre-marital Counselling Programs
Starting off on solid foundations
St John’s Cathedral Counselling Service’s premarital counselling program enables committed couples to get off on a solid foundation in gaining a deeper understanding of their relational dynamics, personalities, stress factors and strength and growth areas as they embark on their marriage journey.
We offer Prepare/Enrich, the leading premarital and marriage assessment tool, in our premarital program. Prepare/Enrich is an evidenced-based assessment with established reliability and validity which is customised to each couple’s unique circumstances. Our counsellors may utilise the assessment results, along with other couples’ relationship frameworks and approaches, to design a premarital counselling program customised to each couple’s circumstances and identified areas of focus. Each bespoke program incorporates teaching, interactive activities, humour, sharing, identifying and clarifying shared values, building awareness of family-of-origin influences, and ways of relating for reference now and in the future.
Our caring premarital counsellors are qualified with master’s degree achievements in relationship, marriage and family therapy and have many years of experience.
Programme benefits

Programme timeline
Our pre-marital counselling program normally takes 4 to 6 sessions. Through the process, couples are equipped to communicate effectively with kindness and to set realistic expectations for the marriage. This is especially important since each partner brings their own family background and/or cultural or religious beliefs into the relationship.
