Mike Newby

Mike is a qualified counsellor with a background in working with people from diverse backgrounds and identities.  He grew up in the UK and came to Hong Kong after time spent living in New York working in the corporate world, and defining his life and identity away from his original family.  Mike developed an interest in counselling as a way to help others with the challenges they face in their own journey through life.

Mike completed his Masters in Counselling at HKU and has supported people with anxiety, depression and who have issues with self-identity, family and relationships.  His own life experiences inform his caring and non-judgmental approach. By creating a safe space for clients, Mike helps them to share their stories, process past traumas, and explore feelings that are holding them back from living to their full potential.

Mike is experienced in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Positive Psychology, Satir Family Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. By increasing self-awareness and developing new perspectives, Mike hopes to help clients rediscover their natural strengths and to live and feel the way they want.
